This happens to your skin when you sleep less than 6 hours a night…

04 April 2019 by

If you sleep less than 6 hours a night, you are likely to look dull and tired. In general, it is advised that you sleep at least 8 hours per night. This is especially important now than ever because we are constantly dealing with a lot of stress and the body needs its rest.

A rested body also means beautiful skin. Not having enough sleep actually has a much more damaging effect on your skin than you think. Sleep experts claim that if you sleep less than 6 hours a night, your skin will look dull immediately. This is because…

1. Your body produces less collagen

Collagen ensures smooth and firm skin, as well as fewer wrinkles!

2. But more cortisol

Cortisol is a stress hormone. It causes less hyaluronic acid production, which equals to… more wrinkles! Plus, stress causes dehydration, acne and dullness.

3. You get a dull complexion

A good night’s sleep increases blood circulation to the face. If you sleep less than 6 hours, you might look a little pale the following day. Your skin might become dull and pink blushes on your cheeks might disappear.

4. You get bags

Not enough sleep? Then you see that right in your eyes. Or below your eyes… or both! Swollen eyes or eye bags happen because the blood supply is not sufficient after a night out and this causes moisture to accumulate. Drink plenty of water the next day or put an extra pillow under your head in the evening.

5. Your hair is dull and thinner

Your hair follicles are normally fed with nutrients, vitamins and minerals from your blood. As the blood supply is reduced, your hairs receive less nutrients. And as we said, not enough sleep can cause stress and this can lead to hair loss. So sleep!

6. Your skin absorbs less skincare products

When you sleep, your skin focuses on repairing cells. So it is true when they say sleep is the best medicine! The blood supply is not at its finest when there is a shortage of sleep and thus it cannot take a full advantage of skincare products. Therefore, make sure to always apply a good moisturiser before bed. Our Night Cream is a good option as it contains almond oil to help repair your skin. Lastly, remember to drink an extra glass of water. At night, you also lose more fluid than during the day.
