Natural care for baby and children's skin

Did you know that a child's skin is 15 times as thin as adult skin? Of course you want to keep it as pure as possible. That is why you use care products that keep children's skin in balance and take care of it as naturally as possible. In addition to regular skin care, the skin may need extra care. For skin conditions such as eczema, diaper rash, sunburn or mountain, for example. You can read here what this is and what you can do best.

4 most common skin conditions

Not every baby skin is equal. Sometimes you see special spots or spots. In order not to panic immediately, we have listed the most common deviations.

1. Eczeem

Yes, unfortunately this also occurs in babies. It is often hereditary and can develop as early as 3 months. It is important that you keep the skin oily. Lubricate with aVette Crème is essential.

2. Diaper rash:

Also called diaper dermatitis. The cause is the moist climate in the diaper. No matter how absorbent some diapers are, nowadays one skin reacts differently from another. So what to do? Change diaper regularly. Clean buttocks with lukewarm water and a clean washcloth. Pat dry well and then rub with Naïf Diaper Cream. This contains no parabens or mineral oils and calms through the use of Vitamin E and chamomile.

3. Baby-acné

Help, my baby has pimples! No worries, this is also called baby acne and is very normal. It often occurs a few days or weeks after delivery. It has to do with your hormones that you pass on to your baby. Do not pick, squeeze or scrub. Just leave the pimples on. They disappear by themselves!

4. Berg

A common skin condition in babies. They are the white or yellowish-white flakes / crusts on the scalp. What to do? Apply some oil to the head, then you can comb it away. For very small babies, we recommend just leaving it. Only when the fontanelle has grown together can you gently brush it away. The Naïf Soothing Baby Oil is perfect for this!

Sun protection baby & child

You may have given birth or gave birth in a sunny period. Delicious for you! We understand that you do not want to sit in a dark room for 40 days and also want to go outside. And that you want to sit with your face in the sun (watch out with pigmentation, because you still have hormones in you, so apply yourself well!) Is fine. But you prefer to keep your newborn off the bright sun, especially during the first twelve months. Going outside anyway? Then apply with a natural sunscreen , high factor please.

What do you use for a newborn baby?

At Naïf we often get the question from new mothers: what do I really need? Because not all products you use from day 1.

For example, not every baby has a bunch of hair and it certainly does not need to be washed every day. What is important is to gently care for the baby's skin in the first few weeks to protect the natural skin layer. To maintain this protective layer, we have developed a number of products that take care of the skin in a natural way.

The products can be found in the Newborn Essentials. These are three products that can be used for the first time in the bath, diaper rash and baby massage.

The complete baby package

Do you want to be ready for the first few months right away?

Then the Starter Kit is the package for a worry-free start. It contains the most commonly used products that you will use for the first few months anyway. Think of the products that you find in the Newborn Essentials, but you also get the Washgel, Body Lotion and Nurturing Cream.

Baby & child skin care

The Naïf range is designed in such a way that you can add relevant products from the basic packages yourself. More products can be used from approximately 6 months. For example, you can use a natural shampoo and hair lotion for mild cleansing and nutrition. You can also create some more bubbles in the bath with our Bath Foam and Splashing Bathbombs. You can find this combination in the Kids Essentials Set.

My son has had dry patches on his skin since birth. We used different products, but nothing really seemed to help. We needed a good greasy cream to deal with this problem. This works wonders! Allergen free and you don't have to use much!

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should you wash a baby's hair?

The first few months you only need water for your baby's locks. This allows you to safely wash a baby's hair. If your mini gets more hair, you can use shampoo once a week. Even if he has no hair, Naïf baby shampoo is fine. He also cares for the scalp.

Do you need a special baby shampoo?

A special shampoo for your mini is a must. Baby shampoo is less acidic than your own hair care. Our Naïf Mild Baby Shampoo is for every little one and contains no PEG, SLS / SLES, phenoxyethanol, parabens and mineral oil. That makes it extra mild

The mild baby shampoo has been dermatologically tested and gives an instant good hairday. Plus: it smells great and these bubbles don't sting the eyes. Watch your baby shine!

Help, my baby is suffering from eczema!

That can happen to anyone. Keep the spots greasy with a cream based on natural oils, such as Naïf's Oily Cream. Avoid long and warm soaking and use an oil-based bath product to nourish the skin immediately.

Extra tip; also take a look at the detergent you use, strong fragrances and hard detergents can also have an effect on eczema. Oh and don't wear woolen clothes directly on the skin

Hm, my child suffers from flakes on the scalp

That could just be "mountain". This is nothing serious, just a matter of excess sebum. This will pile up and can cause yellow flakes. You can soften it with a natural baby oil and brush it loose with a soft brush.

How do I take care of the rest of the baby body?

In the beginning you bathe your child two or three times a week. You can clean the hands regularly with a wet washcloth. If your baby has sensitive skin or eczema, just water is sufficient in the beginning. After a week you can start with a very small splash of washing gel or mild bath oil in the bath.

We do not use chemicals in our products or irritants. Wash well in the folds, such as groin, armpits, between the fingers and in the folds of the neck and do not leave your baby in water for more than five minutes.

I would like to give baby massage, how do I do that?

We have put together a step-by-step plan for baby massage for you. Read the blog.

Can you apply a newborn to sunscreen?

Yes, you can also rub newborn babies with sunscreen. Try to keep your mini out of direct sunlight as much as possible, but there is also UVA and UVB radiation in the shade. It is therefore important that you protect your newborn baby's skin optimally with sunscreen. Therefore, lubricate your newborn baby well with sunscreen. Preferably with a sunscreen with natural mineral filters such as Naïf sunscreen.
